Welcome to the 2006 Lester Eastman Conference on High Performance Devices. The conference returns this year to the location of its origin – Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Cornell is conveniently located 5 miles from Ithaca/Tompkins Airport, 1.25 hours drive from Syracuse Hancock International Airport, or a 3.5 hour drive from New York City, in the scenic Finger Lakes region of New York State. Both individual and family accommodations will be available in area hotels, and on-campus housing is available in the new North Campus Residence Halls. Events will include meals, a banquet barbeque and a poster session in the atrium between Duffield and Phillips Hall. Duffield Hall, opened in 2004, houses two national nano-technology centers, and the atrium is an outstanding location for breaks, meals and discussions. Student participation is strongly encouraged. I would like to express my thanks to this year's technical sponsors, the IEEE, and government agencies who are helping to encourage our next generation of researchers.
